The Day Of Silence

I was just on the facebook for TDOS and a man’s post really touched me. This is what people should be like:

I’m a supporter of the LGBT community but this wasn’t always the way it was…. I used to be THAT guy…… The high school jock, who didn’t understand/know that it was wrong to “bully” people…. A few friends and I used to wait outside a …known gay bar, for “stragglers” and we would harass and at times; physically assault them…. In a small southern town, this was overlooked in the 80’s…. We beat this poor man so bad, one night, that we almost killed him….. A few years later; I found out my brother, whom I love more than just about anyone, was gay. We had grown up with his life partner and he was like a brother to me as well. At that moment, all my anger, fear and prejudices went away….. I used some contacts in my local Sheriffs Office to find the man, I knocked on his door one night and asked if I could speak to him. I was invited in and we sat down. I told him my name and then confessed my crime to him… That was by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I was crying when I was done and told him that I’d sit right there while he called the Police to came arrest me so that he could press charges…. That man….. Wrapped his arms around me….. And broke my heart when HE cried for ME and said; “I forgive you”. We all do stupid things when we’re young, but I hope none of you ever experience what I just told about. I am very active in my support for the LGBT community and consider it my “penance” for being so evil in my youth. I won’t tell you young people out there, reading this, that it gets better. As a straight man, I don’t know if it really does or not. I can tell you that you will get past all the people who are picking on you. Suicide is never the answer; there’s a big World out here, just waiting for you. I’d suggest that you look to God for guidance in your day to day life. He’ll help, if you talk to Him. He loves you just the way you are… Perfect, as He made you. Don’t listen to the opinions of the small minded and the slow witted; they’re not worth your time. I’ll be praying to God to keep y’all safe. :) it makes me smile knowing that change is possible and people can become accepting<3
